I Will Not Leave You Fatherless

by Maria Grizzetti

Tu es petrus

Thou art Peter…

From the balcony that overlooks the world, they proclaimed his name. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis today, on a rainy evening in Rome.

The Holy Spirit never leaves his flock, and if we believe this, then trust is now in order; confidence that God, in His goodness, has revealed yet more of His plan.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always,
the Spirit of truth, which the world cannot accept, because it neither sees nor knows it. But you know it, because it remains with you, and will be in you.
I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.
John 14. 16-18

The media will offer endless perceptions, projections and rejections. But apart from the noise something greater is taking place. The flock has a new shepherd, and the sheep rejoice.

The world can not accept, because it neither sees nor knows.

Something about the royal priesthood was seen around the world today. First a silence, and then the new Shepherd of the flock bowed, asking the people of God, whom he will guide, to pray for him.

Let us accompany him with prayer, a strong and steady wave of it, that the Work of the Advocate may blossom anew, the Church may be renewed, our hearts gladden, and Truth triumph.

No man chooses this role. He is chosen for it. And we must trust the One who chooses or believe in vain.

I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

May we be united with this new Holy Father ad maiorem Dei gloriam.
